Meet Carson Young, a young business graduate of the University of Mississippi whose plans to launch gourmet food trucks in Atlanta came about in Los Angeles, where he was a regular diner at the city’s latest food phenomenon. He is convinced that “Atlanta deserves to be a part of the same street food movement that cities such as Portland, Los Angeles, Washington, Austin and New York City enjoy: outstanding food at a great price coupled with a unique social experience.”
To him, the trucks are more than an eating opportunity, and the fact that they encourage the use of social media tools such as Twitter and foursquare hits home. Because of his deafness, Carson is particularly involved in cutting-edge social-networking trends. “We know from other cities with food trucks that when incredible food at incredible prices is offered, and social networking tools are used to tell where the trucks are, hungry fans will come,” he says.
Carson also sees the trucks as a unique way to introduce new food trends to food lovers. He uses the wildly popular Korean BBQ tacos off the Kogi trucks in LA as an example of this. In addition to launching food trucks, Young will bring a commissary to Atlanta “that will launch other aspiring food trucks by helping them with concepts, designing, permitting, and a place to house their trucks and prepare their food.”
He and his family should eventually see their efforts come to fruition, and he is sure to cut an unusual figure on the street!
